Start with what you need to do in French
You may already have a job in France, be preparing to join an employer, or be considering your next professional step. Think about the exchanges that could make a difference: understanding a request, asking someone to repeat a point, explaining a problem or writing a clear message.
The starting point is your communication need, whether or not the occupation is described as being in shortage. A language programme is a learning project; it does not guarantee a job, recruitment or a particular professional outcome.
FLE or professional French writing?
Learning French as an additional language
French as a foreign language is known as FLE. Depending on the programme, activities address understanding, speaking, reading, writing, vocabulary and grammar. The starting-level assessment helps check the route against your existing knowledge.
Improving writing when you already use French
If you already communicate in French and want to work on spelling, grammar, summaries, meeting notes or professional messages, explore the professional French writing programmes. They have a different purpose from FLE.
Bring real situations to the discussion
- Understanding an instruction and checking what is expected.
- Introducing yourself, your role or your activity.
- Asking for clarification and reporting a difficulty.
- Speaking with a colleague or customer.
- Reading a message and preparing a suitable reply.
These are examples to help describe a need. The final objectives and activities must be set out in the programme that applies to your project.
Plan around your working pattern
Prepare your availability, work pattern and access to equipment. Before agreeing to a course, confirm the proposed times, format, teaching language, materials and technical support. Arrangements for learning during working hours and any required approval depend on the route used and should be checked in advance.
If you need an adaptation, describe what would help you take part. Do not put medical information in an initial form. The possibilities and limits need to be considered for the course and, where relevant, a separate examination.
Check funding for your own situation
Working in France or having a particular nationality does not establish that a chosen course can be funded. For CPF, check your own account, the exact training offer, the conditions and any contribution or remaining balance. If you are preparing for future employment, do not assume that future work has already created usable rights.
An employer may also examine an appropriate funding route, including possible OPCO support where applicable. A quote or an enquiry is not a funding approval. Confirm the decision and conditions before committing.
The official CPF service publishes information about foreign-national employees, in French. Its notice of 2 October 2026 also describes possible changes to participation rules. Read the current official information and the warnings in your own file.
Prepare your questions
Note the situations you want to work on, your starting point and availability. Use the English contact test form with fictional information and an address such as alex@fiction.invalid. It stores a local test request without sending an external email or creating an enrolment.
You can state your preferred language for a future live discussion. Multilingual human support and the availability of an English-language quote must be confirmed.
Private review version. The English wording and the individual programme still require linguistic and pedagogical approval.
